How to download software from the Internet

A great place to find new software is to download it from the Internet.

Step 1: Choose a download site

Visit a download site and browse/search for the software you need. A list of software from some of our members is also available in our software download directory.

Whenever you download from the Internet, remember to take standard precautions to protect your computer from viruses, hackers and other security threats by having up-to-date anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and other applicable security software installed on your computer. It is also recommended that you only download software from a reputable publisher. It is also recommended that you only install software that has an uninstall option; that way you should be able to easily remove the software from your computer when you no longer need it.

Step 2: Download the software

Once you've found a software program you want to download, click the download link.

Your Web browser might display a security dialog box asking you whether you want to commence the download. To continue, click Save.

Download confirmation dialog box

When the Save As dialog box is displayed, select a location where the software can be downloaded to. You might want to create a new folder on your computer especially for software downloads.

Download progress dialog box

Click Save to commence the download. A dialog box might be displayed to show the progression of the download.

Step 3: Running the completed download

Once your download has completed, if your Web browser displays a download complete confirmation box, click Open Folder. Scan the download for viruses. Your software download is then ready to install.
