The ban will remain in place until the results of other international and French studies are released. Possible health risks allegedly associated with exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobiles were cited as being the reason for the ban. Mobile phone operators will be required to supply handsets that only support text messaging and require headsets to make calls. Several cities have also turned of wi-fi internet access in libraries and public spaces in response to reports about alleged possible health risks associated with their use. To date, many studies have been conducted world-wide into whether there are risks associated with electromagnetic radiation from mobile phones, with differing results.
