Member Profile: Don Waterfield

Don Waterfield has been working in the software industry since 1996.

Q: Why did you decide to work in the software industry?
I enjoy programming and problem solving in multiple languages.

Q: What work do you do in the software industry?
I am currently a senior programmer/analyst for a corporation.

Q: What advice would you give to people/businesses getting started in the software industry?
Study recent developments and new methods of solving old problems programmatically. Then later, don't forget what you learned. Continue to challenge yourself. Help others gratis when you see the need, and promote yourself whenever possible.

Q: What is/are some of the greatest challenges facing people/companies in the software industry today?
One of the greatest challenges programmers face is keeping up their studies as technologies over compensate for people's shortcomings. Already many compilers are doing more and more of the programming work in the 'black box' and allowing the programmer to simply produce scripts to feed the compiler.
