Member Profile: Javier Montenegro Joo
Javier Montenegro Joo has been working in the software industry since 1998.
Q: Why did you decide to work in the software industry? What is your background working in the software industry?
Initially I used to develop educational software (Physics & Mathematics) for my students at the university, I used to place it on my web page and I noticed that not only my students, but many people from all over the world requested my softwares, then I decided to release them as commercial products, obviously I had to improve easiness of use, presentation, versatility, security against piracy, etc.
Q: What work do you do in the software industry?
I work as a university physics teacher and researcher, also as a consultant to the educational-products industry. I am developing educational software, particularly for Physics, Mathematics, Digital Image Processing and related subjects. My main product is the Physics Virtual Laboratory (PVL), this is an Intuitively-Easy-To-Use physics simulation software which currently includes 145 modules, this is a Virtual Lab used mainly at the university level, though it is also used by high school students, and by physics amateurs worldwide. The PVL has been officially purchased by a USA university and installed in its computers, for students instruction.
Q: What advice would you give to people/businesses getting started in the software industry?
Think mainly how to promote your products, how to make them known by everybody. This is the most important piece of the business.
Q: What is/are some of the greatest challenges facing people/companies in the software industry today?
Publicity. How to make products known by everybody.
